About Lockstep

What is Lockstep

Lockstep is designed for people who want to stay in control without being told what that control must look like. We recognise that gambling exists on a spectrum, and that different people need different levels of structure at different times.

Rather than pushing abstinence or reflection alone, Lockstep focuses on practical support, helping users redirect urges, maintain balance, and keep their priorities aligned with what they value most in everyday life.

Alongside individual tools, Lockstep offers access to personalised relevant meetings and a community of people navigating similar challenges.

The emphasis is on agency, continuity, and support that fits real life, not on labels or rigid rules.

Philosophy & principles

Lockstep is built around a small set of principles that guide every design decision. They keep us focused on what matters most: real support, real progress, and real choice.

  1. Clarity over complexity

We remove the noise so you can focus on what matters.

Every feature exists to reduce cognitive load, not add to it. Information is presented to support decisions in real time, without unnecessary depth, noise, or interpretation.

  2. Agency without judgement

You’re in control. We meet you where you are, supporting different goals and stages while giving you the freedom to define what control looks like for you.

Lockstep does not tell users what control should look like. People engage with the platform at different stages, with different goals, and retain autonomy over how they use the tools provided.

  3. Continuity over intensity

Small consistent steps create lasting change.

Change is supported through consistency rather than extremes. Lockstep is designed to remain useful when things are difficult, when they are manageable, and when they are going well.

  4. User-first by design

No ads. No hidden agendas. Just tools that put you first.

There are no ads, no hidden incentives, and no selling of user data. Where commercial links exist, they are disclosed clearly and never influence recommendations.

Meet the founder

Andrew Brink, Founder

Like many students, I started gambling casually at university. It began with the occasional sports bet among friends or a late trip to the casino after a night out, but over time I noticed it was taking up more of my money, time and headspace than I wanted. When I went looking for something to help me keep it in check, all I could find was reactive support designed for people already in crisis. It took a one-size-fits-all approach and asked for a commitment I wasn't ready to make: to see myself as someone in crisis and to never gamble again.

At 19, I attended a virtual Gamblers Anonymous meeting and left feeling more out of place than when I arrived. The stories I heard were worlds away from my own; many of the people there had spent decades in recovery, and their experiences bore little resemblance to the app-based gambling I knew. Next to what they had been through, saying I had a gambling problem after losing £200 felt almost dishonest, and being told that the only answer was to stop altogether felt like an enormous leap. What I needed wasn't a dramatic intervention but something relevant, private and practical, along with people in similar circumstances I could talk to.

Lockstep is the support I wish I'd had back then: free, private and judgement-free, meeting you wherever you are. Rather than prescribing a single path, it lets you decide what control looks like for you, offering practical tools, genuine alternatives and a community of people who understand what you're going through. Wherever you are with gambling, you don't have to figure it out on your own.
